World Coati Day
It’s world coati day so to celebrate here’s the latest drawing in my days of the year series (the 15th I have drawn so far… not quite sure how I’ll ever do all 366 at this rate!). Coatis are a unique and under appreciated species and unfortunately their numbers are decreasing, so this day was set up to celebrate all types of Coatimundi.
This drawing was based on a real life encounter with coatis that I experienced about a month ago during a trip to Mexico. Our hotel was swarming with Coatis (along with iguanas, monkeys, bats and flamingoes) and often whilst we were sat around the pool they were going through peoples stuff and the bins in search of food. My daughter had just thrown away the ice cream cone that she didn’t want, and within minutes they were rifling through the bins in search of it. Probably not the ideal diet for them, but at least the ice cream didn’t go to waste.
